About

I am in my sixth year teaching Vocal/General Music and in my first year teaching at a Pre-k through 5th Grade public school in the District of Columbia. My first five years were spent teaching in Prince George’s County, Maryland. I graduated in 2011 from Christopher Newport University, in Newport News, Virginia with a Bachelor of Choral Music Education and finished my Master of Arts in Teaching in 2012.

In the summer of 2016, I completed Level III Kodaly Certification at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. In the summer of 2017 I completed Level 1 of Orff and plan to finish that certification in 2019. Additionally, I also attended the Maryland Artistry in Teaching Institute and took four days of intensive courses in Dance and Dance instruction. I am looking forward to integrating much more dance into my classroom this year! I also received a certification in Arts Integration in the Spring of 2015 from the University of Maryland after taking 9 graduate credits over the period of a year and half.

My pedagogical method is predominantly Kodaly however I do pull concepts and methods from Orff, Dalcroze, Feierabend, and Gordon. Additionally, I have been working to integrate other art forms into my music classroom such as dance, drama, and visual art as well as non-arts content areas.

As is the case for most teachers, I have a few side jobs. I am the Professional Alto at my church, and coach High School Ultimate Frisbee in the Spring.

I hope you find this blog useful. Feel free to offer thoughts and suggestions in the comments section, or contact me if you would like more specific information.

Thank you and enjoy!

  1. I’m very similar to you in that I am also predominantly Kodaly, but I pull things from all other philosophies šŸ™‚ Could you tell me about the Kodaly program at MSU? Why would you recommend that particular program/faculty to someone? I’m trying to decide where I want to take my levels. Thanks!
